It was time for take off in Twizel as the town hosted the tenth edition of the South Island Disc Golf Championships.
A hundred and forty-four players competed earlier this month in the tournament, known as Moonbase X, on the permanent 18-hole Greenbelt Course and an 18-hole pop-up course beside the Twizel River walkway.
Francis Orange of Dunedin was the overall winner with a score of -29. Daniel Hunter of Twizel was second with a -23 score.
Ten players from the Waimate Disc Golf Club entered, with three walking away as South Island Champions.
Greg Phillips won the mixed amateur 50+ section with a score of +1, Jenny Gould won the women’s amateur 50+ (with +20) and Caitlin Murray won the girls’ junior U12 (with a +92).
In other results, Wayne Doyle of Timaru was crowned the South Island champion in the mixed amateur 60+ section with a +1.
Jamie Hunter of Twizel was second in mixed amateur 1 (-17), Debra Hunter of Twizel was 2nd in women’s amateur 50+ (+28) and Neko Prentice of Temuka was second in mixed amateur 2 (-8).
