It’s that time of the year again, when the big man in red descends on Stafford St for the annual PrimePort Timaru Santa Parade this Sunday.
Following the same route as last year, the parade will travel along Stafford St, down the loop road and on to Caroline Bay.
Forty-eight floats are entered in the parade and organiser Teressa May said they are still on the hunt for more.
‘‘The aim is to have at least 60 floats this year, so if we could get a few more that would make the parade even more spectacular.’’
She said the parade would have a few new additions this year.
‘‘We have some new entertainment coming down from Christchurch to be part of the parade.
‘‘They will be roaming entertainers and we also have a lot of different groups and organisations involved so were will be lots of different and new floats as well.’’
The theme of the parade will once again be community, which will allow people to be creative and do their own thing.
Mrs May said the main attraction of the parade would of course be Santa himself.
‘‘He is who we all come to the parade to see, so people can of course look forward to seeing him again.’’
She said the parade was a family event and urged attendees to be respectful of others.
‘‘We are hoping for a great day, with great weather and that lots of people come out to support the people who have put the effort into it.’’
The parade will begin on Sunday at 2pm.
