South Canterbury primary school pupils will be raising their voices in song on Monday.

The second annual Song Festival — Hui Waiata, hosted by the Release the Music Charitable Trust, will be held at Life Church Timaru in Morgans Rd.

The theme of the festival is ‘‘The World’’.

Nine schools will present two mass items and their own school items, rehearsing in the afternoon and then returning to perform to an audience at 6.30pm.

Because the venue size is limited, the concert will also be streamed live on the Release The Music Charitable Trust Facebook page.

Release the Music Charitable Trust aims to encourage participation, training opportunities and excellence in music and prioritise music lessons for people facing hardship, specific learning, mental health challenges or other disabilities.

It awards scholarships to individuals or groups to assist with music tuition, examinations, competitions, access musical instruments or other materials required to achieve their musical goals and supports and upskills music teachers in technology or music therapy.

It also assists people living in isolated areas who may not have access to music tuition or performance opportunities and aims to inspire and help people reach their full potential as musicians.
