Mackenzie children threw caution to the wind this school holiday, taking the plunge down hydroslides.

Despite gale-force winds outside, the Fairlie school holiday programme kept trucking on.

Fairlie Kids Club coordinator Erin Thomson said they were fortunate to be booked into CBay for the day, so the weather did not affect them until the drive home.

‘‘It was quite scary, but we made it,’’ Mrs Thomson said.

The holiday programme runs on the second week of every school holiday, and the last week of January, which gave parents achance to plan around it, she said.

She said the Mackenzie Enhancement Board allowed the community an option for capable, affordable daycare.

The board paid staff wages, which kept a day of the holiday programme (from9am to 3pm) at an affordably-priced $25.

‘‘Without the enhancement board we wouldn’t be able to do it.’’

After their exciting journey on Monday, they headed to Geraldine the next day to play football golf.
