Temuka local Margaret Jackson celebrates her 90th birthday today but she has no plans of slowing down.

Mrs Jackson is still playing in the nine hole golf competition at Temuka golf club.

She said she has always loved sport and the outdoors, but when her husband introduced her to lawn bowls she knew it was not for her.

She started playing golf in her 50s after a friend told her about the Temuka club and has continued playing ever since.

She used to play 18 holes when she first started playing and she attends the Ladies Golf competition every Wednesday at the club.

Her second home . . . Margaret Jackson (left) celebrated her 90th birthday at the Temuka Golf Club with club captain Robyn Will.

Mrs Jackson enjoys catching up with the lady golfers over a cup of tea and a chat after playing golf.

She has been on many of the committees and has always been volunteering her time to help.

‘‘It’s very social and very friendly, it’s a great wee club.’’

Her claim to fame at the club would be when she won the Junior B championships in 1997 and when she got a hole› in›one in 2007.

Club captain Robyn Will said Mrs Jackson was a well-liked member of the ladies group and was admired for her longevity on the golf course.

Mrs Jackson said that to her, age was just a number, ‘‘but you do have to keep active, I’m a great believer in that’’.

For those looking at getting into golf, she says people should definitely do it.

‘‘Make some time for it as it is a very good outdoor game.’’
