Aspect Trust’s tug-of-war charity event has raised almost $50,000.

Twenty-four teams across three divisions did battle at the SBS Events Centre on Morgans Rd in late August to raise money for local athletes competing at the highest levels regionally and nationally.

Dimension Building’s team, The Pulling Pirates, raised over $10,000 alone.

Aspect Trust chairman Peter Burt called their effort phenomenal.

‘‘It really speaks to the quality of their crew and reputation.’’

He said it really was a community event.

‘‘A number of community organisations also raised money in their support of the trust on the night.

‘‘It could not have been better, with the best teams going hard out along with the best crowd who really got into the spirit of the event. ‘‘There was also incredible themed entrances and music from the participants.’’ Mr Burt said they had raised close to $50,000 overall, with a few things left to consolidate. He said they would definitely be looking to run the tug-of-war event again. ‘‘We have had outstanding feedback from everyone and we could not have run the event without our sponsors, who we must thank also.’’

The men’s competition was won by the Henderson Building Hell Raisers, while the mixed competition was taken out by Sanford’s In Deep Ship crew.

The very competitive sports division went to the Pleasant Point Rugby Tug Life team.
