Organisers for Fairlie’s popular Trunk-or-Treat are helping others to get in the spirit.

This year’s event will be held at a new location and will offer participants an easier way to get involved.

Organiser Erin Thomson said the event would be held on the rugby grounds practice field, located behind the Fairlie swimming pool.

It was the fifth year the family-friendly event would be held.

Mrs Thomson said each year the event attracted several hundred visitors from across the region, with each year better than the one before.

She said the event was created to allow a safe alternative to children roaming the streets and knocking on strangers’ doors.

Event participants parked their vehicles with their boots facing inwards and decorated their car to a theme with games to enjoy and treats to hand out.

She said the event’s new location would help to make the day safer for the entire family.

This year the event organisers had ‘‘kit sets’’ available, complete with decorations, games and costumes if people were lacking ideas for a stall but still wanted to take part.

Kit set trunk displays had a lot of themes to choose from, all participants needed to bring was candy to hand out.

It was still an affordable family day out, with most of the stalls free of charge and a small number (including guess the lollies, human slot machine and I-scream floats) were $1 or $2.

Admission was a gold coin and non-perishable food donation.

Organisers were still searching for volunteers to manage the entry gate and for people willing to host a stall, people wanting to help could text Mrs Thomson on 021 0847-8373.

The event will be held November 1 from 1pm to 3.30pm, corner of School Rd and Gillingham St.
