Two artworks had already sold before the doors to Temuka’s pop-up gallery were officially opened to the public on Tuesday.

The Temuka Art Guild is hosting a pop-up shop in King St for the fourth year in a row.

Co-organiser Sandra Kelly said as long as the shop remained unoccupied, the pop-up shop would continue to be a Christmas fixture.

The gallery featured artworks from 12 guild members who were based around the region, including some who had received international recognition, she said.

It has 150 paintings on display, constantly changing as works sell.

All the artists had a different pace — Anne Gregerson painted up to 200 artworks a year, while Ms Kelly had painted two.

The worth of an artwork was not in how slowly or quickly it was painted, but in all the training and experimenting an artist did over their lifetime, Ms Kelly said.

The pop-up shop was also displaying art work by Milford artist, the late John Kelman.

The guild was in possession of a large amount of his work, and was framing and displaying a small portion each year.

Over the years, the group had seen people arriving in town simply to see the popup, before wandering off to buy a coffee, Ms Kelly said.

The pop-up proved popular ‘‘because of the high calibre of art work’’.

This year, the pop-up is open six days a week from 10am to 4pm, and closed on Sundays.
