The Aigantighe Art Gallery was moving and grooving on Tuesday as South Canterbury Plunket held its music and movement class in the sculpture garden.

As a way to say thank you and share in the success of the RSM Law Plunket Art Show, parents and their young children shared in a morning of singing and dancing at the gallery.

Plunket play group coordinator Janine Stewart said it was great to be able to combine the art show and the music and movement class.

‘‘It’s really cool to be able to bring the two things together like this and use it as a way to say thank you to Aigantighe and to the art show committee for all of their hard work.’’

Music and movement is a class for children up to 5 years old and is held every Tuesday.

Mrs Stewart said music was an important part of a child’s development and a good way to get parents involved with their children.

‘‘It’s just a really fun time for everyone. It’s just full of singing and dancing and we are really lucky to have Marlene Hanson leading the group.

‘‘She is just incredible.’’

Plunket community services co-ordinator Louise Sullivan-Haley said it was great to be able to give the young parents a chance to visit the gallery.

‘‘We were approached by [RSM Law Plunket Art Show committee chairwoman] Josie Russell to hold the class here as a way to give families a chance to see what the funds raised from the art show go towards.

‘‘It was also a great way to show these young parents that the art gallery is actually a familyfriendly space.

‘‘A big thank-you also to the gallery manager Cara Fitzgerald, who allowed us to come in and use the space.

‘‘Both her and Josie are Plunket mums themselves, so it was really great to have them both involved.’’
