Playhouse to stage classic comedy

Nearly show time . . . Director T.J. Ramsay is all set to bring Run for your Wife to the stage this month.

A fast-paced, fun-filled farce by Little Theatre and Repertory is set to hit the stage of the Playhouse later this month.

Run for your Wife by Ray Cooney, set in the 1970s, follows the story of taxi driver John Smith, who has two wives in different areas of London and a very strict schedule.

When an accident upsets this, causing complication upon complication, John is left trying to keep his double life from imploding.

Director T.J. Ramsay said she grew up in theatre and from acting, directing became a love. .

‘‘Original theatre is my goal but bringing it to life can be challenging as not every theatre person thrives in the atmosphere of ‘what will people make of this?’. Yet that is where every original theatre piece is born and grows.

‘‘I’ve been lucky to have family and theatre family around me who were brave enough to face that question and we achieved extraordinary things for a small theatre company.’’

Run for your Wife is the first South Canterbury Drama League production she has directed.

‘‘I’ve acted in it, now I’m directing it and I know which I prefer.’’

There are only eight cast members and they will all get their steps in with how fast-paced the action is in the show.

“We have a great team of performers who are quick and willing to throw themselves around the stage and in and out of doors with speed because farces are about pace. The crew are wonderful — I had a 3D mock-up of the set at the auditions which was incredible.”

The show runs from October 28 to November 4, with tickets from iTicket and iTicket outlets.
