Timaru audiences are in for a healthy dose of pan-demonium this Christmas.
Continuing its annual Christmas pantomime tradition, the Purveyors of Ominous Productions are bringing the story of Peter Pan to the stage, but not as it is commonly known.
Pan-demonium: A Neverland Adventure, written by local playwright Sarah Prentice, is being directed by Aaron Segar, with Megan Holden as the musical director.
Mrs Holden said the pantomime flipped the classic tale of Peter Pan on its head.
‘‘In good old panto fashion, everything is not as it seems.
‘‘There will, of course, be the usual boos and cheers but they maybe might not be for the people you’d expect.
‘‘There will lots of fun, shenanigans and music, including a chaotic Christmas number at the end.’’
She said it was great to have a big cast that featured a variety of ages as well as family relationships.
‘‘We have mothers and daughters, and a mother and son which is really cool.
‘‘We’ve got a lot more adults this year as well which has been great, especially for the space.
‘‘There are 8-year-olds right up to those who are still 8 years old at heart.’’
She hoped to see a good turnout for the annual end-of-year production.
‘‘We’ve got Vibrant Lighting coming on to do some boom mics.
‘‘So hopefully that will help with the sound because we had some issues with not being able to hear everyone last year.
‘‘This year we have also moved our Christmas Eve show time to 4pm, so that everyone can get home a little earlier to their families and go out later at night to see all the Christmas lights and things like that.’’
Performances will be held at the Scottish Hall on Barnard St at 7pm on December 20, 21 and 23.
A 2pm matinee will also be held on December 21 as well as the 4pm performance on Christmas Eve.
Tickets can be purchased from the events/tickets tab on the Purveyors of Ominous Productions website.
