A concert this weekend aims to celebrate a year of learning.
The Youth Orchestra of South Canterbury concert would be a supported by The Timaru School of Music.
Youth Orchestra conductor Catherine Anderson said the concert would have some Christmas items to ‘‘prepare for the silly season’’.
Mrs Anderson said the concert was a round up of the year’s work.
As pupils from Timaru School of Music had the option of joining the orchestra, the night allowed the younger children an opportunity to see what a bigger event was like.
She said the combined items would be Dr Who and Married Life (the latter which was on the soundtrack for the movie Up).
School of Music head Tim Bower said for his students, being able to gather and perform at the end of the year in front of a receptive audience, gave them the opportunity to see how far they had come.
He said for some of the pupils — especially those beginners — they might only have a basic knowledge of music at the beginning of the year.
However, finishing up the year playing in three different pieces gave them the opportunity to see how far they had come.
Mrs Anderson said the concert was a family friendly event, with ‘‘all welcome’’.
She said there was a gold coin entry and a supper after.
It would be held the concert would be held at Craighead School auditorium tomorrow at 6.30pm.
