Five Questions With . . . YMCA academic and quality assurance manager Steph Jones
What does your role involve?
I’m part of the management team here at the YMCA.
Basically, I’m all things credits; what we deliver, how many we deliver, the way in which we deliver it and ensuring that we comply with our funding requirements. I’m also responsible for supporting our awesome tutors across all our programmes in any way they need. And I’m also on the national academic committee of the YMCA.
What do you enjoy about your role?
Everything – well, except the large quantity of emails.
I love being part of supporting youth in reaching their potential. The staff are amazing, our clients are all wanting to make positive changes for themselves, and you never have to spell the company name. Try and get that song out of your head now.
How can people go about getting involved with the YMCA?
We’re always looking for volunteers to help us in our work in investing in the next generation. Give us a call.
What does the YMCA offer in the way of courses?
Education and training programmes at NCEA levels 1 and 2.
Employment placement services.
Community and youth development programmes (e.g. resiliency toolkit, archery, recreation etc) plus holiday programmes for children and youth.
If you were not doing this job, what do you think you would be doing instead?
