Feedback sought as event grows

The increasing popularity of Temuka’s Rock and Hop street party is causing growing pains.

Boost Temuka spokeswoman Sharnae Naysmith said this year’s street party — which was part of Hospice’s Caroline Bay Rock and Hop — had seen more cars than ever before participate.

The street party consisted of a cruise which snailed down King St before vehicles parked up for the public to admire.

Mrs Naysmith said that with so many vehicles ending up in a narrow and short area, it presented problems for both participants and organisers.

The organisation was working with the council and hospice to keep the event chugging along.

She said she had a meeting with the council earlier this week and they had identified some ‘‘sticky points’’.

‘‘Unfortunately there are some things that need to be tweaked, but we are working through that.’’

For people wanting to share their thoughts, there was a post on Boost Temuka’s Facebook page asking the public for feedback.

The organisation wanted to know if people stayed once the cars were parked up, or did they go home?

Did they visit the market and stores up the main street and was there anything else they would like to see at the event?

Mrs Naysmith wanted to reassure people the event could remain exactly as it was; the feedback was simply to give her an idea of what people wanted.
