Everything is organised for a family fun event to be held at the Geraldine Domain playground on October 4.
Everything but the weather.
While the day aims to strengthen community spirit and welcome new families to the area it is also to raise awareness of the services and support offered by local community groups.
Organiser Jenna Chapman is the region’s HIPPY coordinator — a home-based programme that empowers parents to support their 2 to 5-year-old children in education.
Mrs Chapman had played a part in many organisations around the area, including the Toy Library, Mainly Music and the Pleasant Valley Playgroup, which had made her the perfect candidate to organise the fun-filled day.
She said while some of the groups that would be attending were ‘‘preschool centric’’ all ages were welcome.
‘‘Just families really.’’
The event was not only for people who were new to town, she understood how, despite living somewhere for years, people were still unaware of everything on offer to a new family.
‘‘It is a new era in life and everything is different.’’
She said things were often ‘‘word of mouth’’ leading people to not know what was available.
For families who were aware of the organisations around, they could play a part in the day by simply attending.
She said it could be a scary thing turning up to a playgroup without knowing anyone.
‘‘But seeing a familiar face that you might have spotted at an earlier day out can make that less scary.’’
There would be a free sausage sizzle, face painting, giant bubbles and a colouring-in competition along with other free activities.
The family fun day will be held at the Geraldine Domain Playground, October 4 (weather dependent), 11am-1pm.
