Kayakers, mountain bikers and runners will take to the Mackenzie high country this Labour Weekend for the “Twizel Hard Labour Weekend” event.
The event – on October 26 and 27 – comprises mountain bike, kayak and off-road running events.
People may enter any number of categories.
Twizel Hard Labour Weekend begins at 7am on the Saturday with the 20km kayak from Lake Ruataniwha, down the hydro canals near Twizel to Lake Benmore.
Kayakers are required to carry their boats down the banks near the hydro portages, of which there are two on the course.
The Dusky Trail mountain bike race begins at 11am on the Saturday, starting and finishing at Ben Ohau Station.
There is a 10km mini race, as well as 16km and 40km options.
The third and final event, the Pyramid run, is held on the Sunday of Labour Weekend, starting at 7am.
Runners can take on a half-marathon or a 10km option, while there is also a 5km run for children.
This also begins and ends at Ben Ohau Station.
