Geraldine High School claimed first place in the South Island secondary schools junior netball tournament combined teams event last week.

The team – made up of year 9 and 10 pupils – beat 30 other teams for first place in the combined teams competition, held in Christchurch from July 8-10.

Christchurch’s Papanui High School placed second and Gore High School came third.

Waimate High School was also represented in the combined event, placing seventh, while Roncalli College came 19th, Opihi College placed 23rd and Mountainview High School came 26th, out of 31 teams.

Craighead Diocesan School had teams entered in the year 9 and year 10 competitions, placing 21st out of 32 teams, and 19th out of 31 teams, respectively.

Roncalli College was also competing in the year 10 event, placing 20th, while Timaru Girls’ High School came 27th.

The year 10 competition was won by Taieri College (near Dunedin), while Christchurch Girls’ High School placed second and St Margaret’s College in Christchurch came third.

Timaru Girls’ also placed 23rd in the year 9 competition, which was won by Dunedin’s St Hilda’s Collegiate.

Christchurch Girls’ High School placed second and Nelson College for Girls came third.
