More than 100 disc golf players from around the country flocked to Waimate to compete in the Knottingley Giants Disc Golf Tournament over the weekend.

The tournament featured 26 professional players, with the youngest of the 135 registered players only 10 years old.

Two rounds of 27 holes formed the basis of the competition, with an extra four holes required for the leaders.

Waimate Disc Golf Club chairman Dylan Murray was extremely pleased with the weekend.

‘‘The weather was very kind on both days, with just enough wind on Saturday to test the mettle of all players on different parts of the course.

‘‘[The weekend was] a huge success and achievement for the fledgling Waimate Disc Golf Club, whose members toiled hard to secure the support of sponsors and to ensure the course was prepared to a high standard.

‘‘The feedback on the tournament was all positive, with many of the more seasoned players agreeing that Knottingley Park is potentially the best permanent disc golf course in the country.’’
