The Aorangi Gymnastics team brought home a host of medals from the New Zealand Gymnastics Championships.

The team represented the South Canterbury region at the event in Invercargill from July 12-16.

Aorangi Gymnastics team aerobic manager Liz Evans said the competition was very good.

‘‘It was very positive, a well› run event and the girls all performed to their best ability.’’

The youngest member of their team was 11 and the oldest member 17.

In the open level three individual section, Paige Townshend came fourth and Nicole Teixeira second.

In the open level four individual section Casey-May Watt placed fifth. In the open level four pair and trio section Townshend, Teixeira and Watt placed first. In the aerobic development programme (ADP) level three individual section Annalise Evans placed fourth, and Georgia Buckley placed eighth.

Together in the ADP level three pair and trio section Evans and Buckley came in second. In the ADP level four pair and trio section Sahahna Anisy Oudemans and Millie Dickson placed third.

In the women’s artistic gymnastics (WAG) step level five section, Buckley received proficiency.

The team is conducting an overhaul of all its routines and has begun picking new music, and will start training again shortly for the next competition, which is in the new year.

‘‘We hope to grow the amount of aerobic athletes and WAG athletes within our team and to continue to represent our region at nationals every year,’’ Evans said.
