White Ribbon bridge signs missing

Two signs worth more than $500 have disappeared from the Church St overbridge.

The signs were erected to advertise Te Rito’s White Ribbon event, which was held late last year.

Te Rito South Canterbury co-ordinator Michelle Thew said the signs directed people to the Te Rito website which provided access and connection to support people affected by family harm.

Mrs Thew said she found out they were missing when she went to remove them.

She thought human error must have been involved, and another sign company might have taken them down by mistake, but after ringing around other companies, she was still no closer to finding them.

Organisers had also checked in with businesses in the area and made broad inquiries.

She said the signs were quite large, and would have needed to be transported in a roomy vehicle.

After a sign had been vandalised in mid-2023, Mrs Thew had struggled to fit it in her ‘‘wee’’ car.

In the end, she had been forced to bow it slightly before she could shut the vehicle, so she was sure two would not fit.

She was not ‘‘flinging accusations’’ but simply hoped to make a call to businesses in the area — and to the public if they had seen them or collected them in error, to return them to Family Works.

‘‘We are hoping someone may have seen them somewhere.’’
