Bluestone School pupils have aced their recent lesson on random acts of kindness.
Pupil Mary Thorp said it was ‘‘awesome’’ giving out $50 gift cards to random strangers last week.
She said the pupils had held a walkathon which raised more than $6000, which they were using to ‘‘give back’’ to the community.
Mary said they had given out six gift cards worth $50 each at the Countdown supermarket in Browne St before heading to give out six more at Pak’n Save.
Random people were selected, and most had joyful reactions.
She said one woman with a child had given her a hug. ‘‘She almost started crying.’’
The pupils also donated $415 worth of goods to Refugee Settlement Services. She said they had bought blankets, toys and school bags for newcomers to the area.
The children donated money and goods to about 30 different groups and organisations, with the Menzshed receiving tools and goodies and people working in rest-homes receiving gift baskets.
