A dose of memories and laughter marked the Timaru School of Nursing class of 1974’s half century reunion.

Classmates celebrated their 50th anniversary in Timaru last weekend.

A celebration lunch was held at Harlau House. There was also a hospital tour and an evening meal at Speight’s Ale House.

Spokeswoman Heather Jeffery said the reunion was a lot of fun.

‘‘But it was not enough time, really.’’

Mrs Jeffery said they had shared memories and recalled amusing anecdotes.

‘‘Not things we could put in the newspaper, though.’’

She said while there was a lot of laughter the event was ‘‘tinged with sadness’’ as they remembered those who had died.

It had also saddened her to see the changes to the hospital.

‘‘There were places we had so much fun in that are no longer there.’’

That included the chapel — where some of the girls had been married — which was no longer used.

‘‘We used to take the patients down there for the service.’’

Mrs Jeffery said it was lovely to see all the beautiful stained glass windows.
