Mackenzie District Mayor Anne Munro cut the ribbon to officially open the cycle trail from Fairlie to Kimbell on the weekend.

Central South Trails publicity officer Mark Lowen said it was ‘‘a lovely day for it’’.

Mr Lowen said the crowd set off on a ‘‘a wee bike ride’’ after the speeches.

When they arrived at the Silverstream Hotel, the Mackenzie District Council had ‘‘put on a spread’’.

One of the cyclists gathered for the launch was Fairlie resident Claire Dann.

Ms Dann said she loved joining so many others for the official opening.

Light refreshments . . . At the other end of the cycle trail refreshments awaited at the Silverstream Hotel.

‘‘It was great to see the variety of trail users, from fellow bikers to walkers and even a few golf carts.

‘‘It’s a real community asset.’’
