Last Night of the Proms draws big crowd

Entertaining the audience . . . The Youth Orchestra of South Canterbury, St Mary’s adult choir, St Mary’s children choir and the Geraldine children’s choir performed several songs at the concert.

St Mary’s Church held its Last Night of the Proms concert this month, featuring talented locals from around South Canterbury.

The church was full, with about 100 musicians performing to an audience of about 240 people. .

The concert opened with a moving rendition of the hymn tune Lloyd performed by the Timaru Brass Band, conducted by Connor Rabbidge.

Performers from the Youth Orchestra of South Canterbury, St Mary’s adult choir, St Mary’s children’s choir and the Geraldine children’s choir, all conducted by Catherine Anderson, entertained the audience with pieces from Howard Goodall’s Love Divine and Klaus Badelt’s Pirates of the Caribbean.

The evening concluded with a rousing singalong of Rule Britannia, featuring soprano soloist Emma Gilkison, Land of Hope and Glory and Jerusalem.
