On Sunday, the lifeboat Alexandra was returned back to its spiritual home at Caroline Bay.

The vessel, which is primarily remembered for its use during the infamous ‘‘Black Sunday’’ wrecks in 1882, was placed into a new shelter behind the Soundshell after it had been removed from its previous home at Caroline Bay to make way for the Piazza in 1996.

The project to re-home the lifeboat was the culmination of a $350,000 fundraising campaign launched by the Timaru Host Lions Club in July last year.

Reporter Connor Haley captured the Alexandra’s journey back to the bay.
