Repertory enthusiasts are invited to celebrate 90 years of the South Canterbury Drama League repertory section with a dinner at the Playhouse theatre.
Repertory sub-committee chairwoman Judith Lindqvist said anyone who had something to do with the repertory section was more than welcome to attend the dinner. Friends were welcome as well.
‘‘It is a very amazing thing to be celebrating. We are very proud of our history here.’’
Ms Lindqvist said originally plays used to be rehearsed in the old hall which was now the wardrobe.
‘‘There is a lot of history. We have a scrapbook of every play that the section has ever done.’’
She said a member of the subcommittee, Anne Ellis, had spent many hours making sure the history of the section was recorded, and managed to go back several years.
‘‘I have a very good committee helping me organise this celebratory dinner.’’
They hoped for a good evening and a good turnout to the event, Ms Lindqvist said.
‘‘It will be a good evening at the Playhouse remembering and celebrating everything we have done so far.’’
It would be great to be able to see the section celebrate 100 years, she said. They only had the odd young person, she noted. ‘‘We provide opportunities for everything, really.
‘‘We have some very talented people and if you are interested in joining, give it a go and come along. You will really enjoy it.’’
They also provide achance for people to put their original works on stage, such as Carol Angland whose play about Captain Cain will be the first show for this year’s section, and will tie in with the festivities.
Tickets for the dinner are available online or through the South Canterbury Drama League office. The final day of ticket sales is February 22.
