Helping hands are making the Aorangi Croquet Club look new just in time for the Masters Games.
Mitre 10’s Helping Hand project is a nationwide community project that usually sponsors sporting events, but this year it put the call out for other community groups that had projects that needed finishing.
The company’s regional manager Paul Fisher said they had completed a few children’s playgrounds this year.
The Aorangi Croquet Club applied and Mitre 10 decided to help complete the work on the clubrooms before the Masters Games start a week tomorrow.
The space has been given new flooring, which includes new carpet and lino for the kitchenette area, and they will be given some paint for the inside of the clubroom as well.
They were able to paint the outside of the clubroom earlier this month.
Aorangi Croquet Club president Jamie Parry said they hoped to get the clubrooms painted before the games takes place, but it depended on how much time they had.
‘‘It is overwhelming to have this done, so unexpected and we are so appreciative of what they are doing for the club.’’
The club usually gets about 150 entries for the Masters Games with 64 players across three days of games.
‘‘What has been done to the club-room will make all the difference.’’
