Timaru’s youngest residents have latched on to a good idea.

The Big Latch On was held at the Wilson St Baptist Church last Thursday.

Project organiser Renee Haumu said the turnout was ‘‘incredible’’.

‘‘It was the best one yet, I think.’’

The event had 186 mums, babies and supporters through the door, Miss Haumu said.

‘‘It was just such a vibe.’’

The popularity in this year’s event could be put down to engagement, she said.

‘‘I think our community is just amazing at being a community and at engaging in community events.’’

Previously the event organised to have as many babies breast feeding at one time, however, that was no longer the goal.

Miss Haumu said the kaupapa behind the event was more about inclusiveness now and attendees were encouraged to come as they were, to join together and feed together.
