Band pleased with trip south

The South Canterbury Highland Pipe Band competed in the Otago/Southland Centre Provincial contest held in Dunedin over two days last weekend.

Fourteen bands competed over three grades in both the Octagon and North Ground in fine weather.

South Canterbury pipe major William McArthur said he was very pleased with the band’s performance and the results reflected the effort the band members put in to compete at grade four’s top level.

Drumming up a win . . . South Canterbury Highland Pipe Band bass drummer Tiffany Gilchrist shows off her winner’s trophy.

Bass drummer Tiffany Gilchrist took the top honours in the bass section winning the John Reid Trophy for best bass drummer over all 14 bands.

The band is preparing to compete at the New Zealand and South Pacific Pipe Band Contest in Christchurch, held on March 10 and 11.

Members of the public are welcome at the band room on March 6 at 7pm to listen to their final practice before heading to Christchurch.
