Liz Taylor is donating trophies to next year’s Mackenzie A&P Show in the hope it will inspire the next generation of bakers.
The Timaru-based show participant donated two baking cups, one for the 13-17 age group, and one for ages 6 and younger.
She wanted to give back to the show, Mrs Taylor said.
“I’ve been entering competitions for more than 20 years.
“I enter in the knitting, flowers and baking. I enter just about everything, and this year I tried out photography.
“I want to encourage the young ones to bake, to come and have a go. Hopefully they’ll carry it on, get the bug, and probably be my next competitors.”
She would also be contributing to the cash prizes for other events in next year’s show.
Mrs Taylor won the overall prize of $100 at the last show,
“I’ll be competing for as long as I can. I love entering the shows.
“We had to bring two cars for all the stuff I was entering last time,” she said.
Entering in the Mackenzie show was special.
“I compete at the Temuka show as well, but the Mackenzie show is special, because I used to live in Fairlie.”
