The Timaru Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is set to return later this month.

Held on September 29, the motorcycle ride coincides with events around the globe, all to raise funds and awareness of men’s health.

Timaru organiser Richard Brown said the event was set to return on the last Saturday in September.

It would begin at the Piazza and finish at Speight’s Ale House in George St.

The route between these two points would “depend on who we get on board”, Mr Brown said.

“We’re working on getting numbers.”

Registrations are now open and can be made through the international Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride website.

There is also a Facebook page for the Timaru event, where more details of the ride – including timings – would be posted in the lead-up, Mr Brown said.

He encouraged all interested residents to sign up.

“[Particularly] anyone who’s into classic bikes.”

It is one of several events being held in Timaru over the next few months for Movember.

The TiMOru Soapbox Derby, which Mr Brown is also involved in organising, will be held on November 10.

Mr Brown said the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was a good chance for residents to get their beloved bikes out on the road, while also supporting men’s health.

The ride helps fund prostate cancer research and the men’s mental health programme, through the Movember Foundation.

“There are a few pretty amazing bikes sitting in sheds.”

“[It is] a bit of a quirky event.”
