Local artists are seeking a window of opportunity.

Painting for Palestine will be taking place in Timaru this weekend, with artworks created at the event being auctioned online at a later date.

Facilitator Helen Oishi said the proceeds of the auction would go towards Palestinian children suffering trauma in the Gaza conflict.

Mrs Oishi said while the pieces would be auctioned online, organisers were searching for a space in the public domain where people could see them before bidding.

She felt the ideal spot would have plenty of foot traffic, and be available for a couple of weeks.

Painting would take place this weekend at the art hangout at Studio Oishi.

They would utilise the art work of young female Palestinian artist Malak Mattar.

Mrs Oishi said Malak Mattar had used her artwork for some years to highlight the ongoing struggle of the people of Gaza.

Painting would take place this Sunday and Mrs Oishi hoped it would be a joyous event for a good cause.

‘‘Painters bring paint, but everyone else could bring a plate and just enjoy the atmosphere.’’
