Timaru bookworms can stock on up on new reads this weekend at the annual Red Cross Book Sale.
Convener Janette Clarke said the sale, which had been held for more than 40 years, would run from Saturday morning until Monday afternoon at the Red Cross Hall.
She estimated fivevolunteers had sorted 450 banana boxes of books, games, CDs, DVDs and other items over the past year, storing all the items near the Red Cross shop.
After the books were sorted into boxes, a group of more than 30 volunteers moved the items from the storage space to the Red Cross hall ahead of the sale, Mrs Clarke said.
The sale was the main fundraiser for the Timaru branch, with all proceeds going back to local projects, including working with schools and hosting first aid courses, she said.
The 2016 sale raised about $14,000.
