Secondary school tennis players from across the Aoraki region – including Oamaru, Ashburton and South Canterbury – gathered for the annual Aoraki Secondary Schools Tennis Tournament at the Trust Aoraki Tennis Centre last Thursday.

The boys open section was won by Timaru Boys’ High School, while Waitaki Boys’ High School, from Oamaru, placed second.

The mixed open section was claimed by Ashburton College, while Roncalli College placed second and St Kevin’s College, from Oamaru, placed third.

Waitaki Girls’ High School claimed the top two places in the Girls’ Cup category, first to their Girls 1 team and second to the Girls 2 team, while Craighead 2 placed third.

The Boys’ Cup was won by Ashburton College 2, while Geraldine High School’s Boys 1 team placed second and their Boys 2 team came third.

The competition was the first of the Aoraki Secondary Schools sport events on the calendar this year.
