Kindergarten doing its bit for the environment

Temuka’s Rata Kindergarten has introduced an innovative way to support sustainable practices.

The tamariki/children and kaiako/teachers have been exploring ways to look after the environment, and a new practice at kindergarten is that tamariki will now use a reusable waterproof bag to take home any wet clothing from their day of learning and play.

Clothing used to be sent home in a plastic supermarket bag, but head teacher Donna Rooney contacted Craighead Diocesan School, which created a project in which pupils from sewing classes made a waterproof bag for each child.
