Croquet players from around the South Island will be competing in Timaru later this month.
“The South Island Masters were to be held in Nelson this month but were cancelled,” co-organiser of the Timaru tournament Kevin McGlinchy said.
As a result Timaru decided to step in to stage the championships.
McGlinchy said 175 entries had been received, players ranging in age from 50 to 87.
A total of 36 were from Timaru.
“We’re very pleased with the response – it was much better than what we expected.”
The championships start on October 14 and run through to October 18.
