Hockey was the sport of the moment last week, as four national competitions were held around the country – including in Timaru.

The town hosted the 2019 national under-18 women’s association tournament, while the national under-18 men’s association tournament was held in Pukekohe, near Auckland.

Canterbury placed first in the Timaru tournament, followed by Auckland in second place and Wairarapa in third.

The South Canterbury under-18 women’s team finished seventh out of 16 teams in the tournament.

The South Canterbury under-18 men’s team placed fourth in the Pukekohe event, behind Canterbury, Southern and Wellington.

The region was also represented in the 2019 Vantage national under-18 men’s and women’s hockey tournaments, both held in Wellington at the same time.

However, while there was no South Canterbury team at the event, four Timaru Boys’ High School hockey players were part of the winning Canterbury under-18 men’s team.

Duncan Rollinson, William Sharp, Tim Sheed (all 17) and Matthew Ellis (16) became national under-18 champions, after their Canterbury team beat Central 2-1 for first place in the final on Saturday.

Canterbury came third in the Vantage national under-18 women’s event, behind Central in first place and Auckland in second.jordan SneakersAir Jordan
