Runners will be up against the clock when they take their marks in the upcoming 5km summer series.
The series, hosted by Run Timaru each Tuesday night, will return to the Soundshell on January 30 with a 6.30pm start time.
It will be held each Tuesday until February 27, allowing participants to get out into the great outdoors with like-minded people, many of whom will use the series to train for the Hadlow to Harbour fun run in March.
Organiser Mark Peters said the 5km series, which follows on from the 3km circuit which took place in December, was expected to attract a lot of people.
“I’m expecting we should be in the nineties this year, or crack the hundreds.”
Last December’s 3km series was among the most popular yet, about 80 people taking part each week.
Participants pay $2 per run and get their time recorded, which gives them something to work towards each week.
“It gives them something to get fit with,” Mr Peters said.
The 3km circuit option will also be available to people again who do not want to cover 5km.
“We want people to enjoy it and build up [their fitness] for the winter or get fit for Hadlow to Harbour – to make it a bit more manageable for themselves.”
