Four junior South Canterbury table tennis players are bound for a national championship this weekend.

Ryan Lam, Daniel Fitzgerald and brother Jamie Fitzgerald will compete in the under-18 boys competition while Shammah Ncube will play in a composite team for under-18 girls.

The multi-day New Zealand junior and senior open championships will be held in Tauranga from Saturday until October 13.

Robert Morrison will attend as their coach, and Sue Fitzgerald is going as manager for the group.

Table Tennis South Canterbury president Frank Cleverley said the competition would be strong, but the young players should do well in some of their games.

Last year, the South Canterbury trio of Lam, Fitzgerald and Da Tong Ong claimed bronze in the under-18 boys team section.short url linkZwift Is Betting It Can Do for Running What It Did for Cycling
