A total of 44 teams from around South Canterbury as well as Oamaru contested the inaugural Caroline Bay relays in Timaru last Thursday.
Chairman of the organising committee Paul Dominikovich, of Opihi College, said he was delighted with the response and he hoped it might become an annual event.

The event was for schoolchildren from years 5 to 10 and was inspired by the greatly successful Round the Lake schools relay in Whangarei.
Each runner ran a lap of just over 2km, starting and finishing in front of the Bay Soundshell and covering the bay walkways and boardwalk.
A good spirit prevailed with runners urging their fellow team members on.
Fastest lap times went to Ryan Bagrie of Timaru Boys’ High School with 6min 22sec and May Hewson (Roncalli College) 8min 12sec.
