A group of Timaru gymnasts has qualified for a national competition.
Five members of the South Canterbury Gymsports team competed at the Otago Aerobic Gymnastics Championships held in Balclutha at the weekend, all performing well enough to qualify for the nationals in Auckland in October.
Coach Sally Hart said she was “extremely proud” of the team members who had worked hard to get to the Otago competition.
“They are hard-working girls and they put a lot into their training,” Hart said.
It was only the second time the girls had competed. “They’ve been training for about 15 weeks.”
The team was Tegan Buckley (14), Brenna Turnbull (15), Caitlin Buckley (15), Zoe Harding (16) and Lillie Evans (13).
Brenna, Zoe and Caitlin were first overall in the trio section, Brenna and Caitlin were second in the pairs, Lily and Tegan were third in the pairs, Zoe was second in the individual section, Brenna fourth in the individual section, Caitlin sixth in the 15 to 17 years section and Lily and Tegan equal sixth overall in the 12 to 14 years individual.
“The results were amazing,” Hart said.
The weekend was a full one for the gym club, with 20 girls taking part in a competitive day in Timaru on Sunday against teams from Timaru, Waimate and Dunedin.Sportswear free shippingAir Max
