Spring fetes are the theme of the month and South Canterbury GymSports is getting in on the action.
The group, which needs to raise $10,000 to run its Timaru-based facility annually, will host its first spring fete on Saturday.
Fundraising committee member Jo Lewis said money raised from the event would help the group with the upkeep of its facility in the old Century Pool complex on Craigie Ave.
“We need to raise $10,000 just to run the facility like power, rent and all those things, [and] replacing equipment.”
South Canterbury GymSports was into its second year and was proving popular. It has about 150 children involved, the majority of whom took part in a recreational capacity, Mrs Lewis said.
The fete, to take place from 10am to 3pm, would ensure the facility continued to benefit its existing members and many more as children continued to take up the activity.
“Basically, at the moment, we have 40 to 50 stalls,” Mrs Lewis said.
There will be baking for sale and prizes to be won from a chocolate wheel. A range of activities would also be on offer, including a bouncy castle, pony rides and water walkers.
