Table Tennis South Canterbury is hoping to attract new members through its two upcoming open days.
The club, based at the Barry Butler Table Tennis Stadium in Coonoor Rd, will hold the first of the two open days tomorrow (Sunday) and the second one on the following Sunday (March 24).
Club president Frank Cleverley said the sessions would be held from 1pm to 4pm on both days and welcomed everyone to come along.
“Just give it a go,” he said.
Tables, bats and balls would be provided.
The venue provided the chance for a variety of grades and competitions to compete in a purpose-built space.
“Timaru is very, very lucky.”
The club’s weekly senior competition would launch on April 3 with a registration evening.
The competition would officially begin the following Wednesday, Mr Cleverley said.
“[There are] grades for every ability.”
He estimated 30 to 40 people took part in the weekly competition on Wednesdays, which began at 7.30pm and ran for about an hour and a-half.
Alongside the regular club tournament, Table Tennis South Canterbury also managed the secondary school competition season, which would start up in term 2.
Mr Cleverley said he expected to have about 60 to 70 high schoolers competing.
The club also restarted a regular coaching session series for primary school players last year and planned to restart it in term 2, he said.
About 25 primary school-aged players took part last year.
A primary school competition would be restarting next term – if enough teams entered.
A minimum of 10 teams was required to run the event and six had signed up so far, Mr Cleverley said.
He hoped people would attend the club’s open days, particularly as a previous event had prompted about five new people to join.
The Table Tennis South Canterbury open days will run from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday, March 17, and Sunday, March 24. They will be held at the Barry Butler Table Tennis Stadium in Coonoor Rd, Timaru.Sports NewsCONVERSE Plataforma Blancas , Comprar Converse CTAS LUGGED HI 565902C Blancas , Online
