Unwanted stamps have been turned into welcome cash.
The Timaru Philatelic Society last year called for donations of new and used stamps and unwanted stamp collections to raise funds for the South Canterbury-based Forgotten Sherpas of Nepal Trust.
This week, president Colin McRobie presented trustee Marg Stocker with a cheque for $1000, which Mrs Stocker said would be used to continue operating health clinics in the middle hills of Nepal.
“It costs us $200 a month for a trained nurse’s wages, so this is several months’ wages, or it could be six to eight months’ of medical supplies.
“We’re hugely grateful for this generous donation and the support we get from the Timaru Philatelic Society. This is the second, if not third time they have made a donation to us.”
