Military personnel converged on Tekapo at the weekend.
New Zealand Defence Force communications adviser Charlene Smart soldiers from the 2/4 Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment were posted at the Tekapo Military Training Area on Saturday and Sunday for an exercise in live firing skills.
The training covered assaults in open country, urban clearance and the firing of a variety of weapon systems, including the Glock 17 pistol.
Soldiers fired live ammunition at simulation targets, “creating an opportunity for our young leaders to work within their sections and practise their leadership and direction”.
“It was a mild but windy weekend, which made for some enjoyable training, and the soldiers were able to experience the training fully,” Ms Smart said.
“Soldiers came from all over the South Island to participate in the live firing.”
