Aoraki actors from Twizel, Geraldine and Timaru will compete at the National University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival this weekend.

The national interschool Shakespeare competition will be held in Wellington over Queen’s Birthday weekend.

The winning teams of the Aoraki heats in April, from Twizel Area School and Geraldine High School, along with Craighead Diocesan’s Prue Scott, will attend the battle of the Bard.

Twizel pupils won the 15-minute section with a performance from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, while Geraldine High School placed first in the five-minute section for their short rendition from Twelfth Night. Craighead’s Prue Scott won the pupil direct entry to the final.

Close to 50 school teams will compete in the national event on June 1 and 2.
