Scooterman a must-visit

Timaru superhero Scooterman has fans in Australia.
Brisbane librarians Kerri Baillie and Kath Reed stopped by Timaru last week to visit him while making their way around New Zealand on holiday.
Scooterman (aka John Watson) is well known around town for rocking and rolling, and can be found in cyberspace spreading his message of positivity and doing good deeds for others.
He has built up a fan base across digital platforms, including YouTube, and in the community.
Nothing is a hassle as he seeks to clean the streets of broken glass or take the neighbours a roll of toilet paper — even a damaged hip doesn’t stop him from jumping to the assistance of others.
His mission is to bring a smile to people’s faces, although he still finds time to sweep the streets and carry out other superhero chores.
His scooter is equipped with two digital cameras, MP3 player, mobile phone, broom, towel and spare underpants.
Kath said she was introduced to his online antics by a Kiwi friend and contacted him before she came to New Zealand last month.
‘‘I’d commented on his videos and we got in touch.
‘‘John’s videos are so much fun. I just subscribed and I’ve been watching them ever since.’’
