SC residents organise some cheer for battered W. Coast

A group of South Canterbury residents is inviting people to give homemade baking and cards to storm-battered West Coast residents.

Organiser Fiona Elworthy said the “Cakes and Cards for the Coast” donations would be given to West Coast residents after ex-cyclone Fehi wreaked havoc on the west side of the Southern Alps earlier this month.

The group of supporters – including Warwick and Jenny Smith and Sonia Henare – would collect the donations before organising transportation and distribution of the goods early next month, she said.

“[We] are inviting compassionate people .. to donate homemade cakes or other baking and a signed card [for] .. our neighbours over the Southern Alps.”

A collection depot for baked goods and cards had been set up in St Mary’s Church hall, 22 Church St, Timaru.

Residents could drop off their donations between 9am to 1pm, until February 28.Running sneakersShop Footwear
