Temuka identity Pat Mulvey’s work for the community was marked with a special event in the town last Thursday.
The roadway into the Temuka Domain was officially named Mulvey Dr, a sign having been installed, and a plaque was unveiled by Timaru Mayor Damon Odey.
“It’s in recognition of Pat’s contribution to the domain and his work on the community board and district council,” Temuka Community Board chairman Paddy O’Reilly said.
About 30 people attended the ceremony, many of them Mr Mulvey’s family, some of whom travelled from the North Island.
“He’s a life member of the Temuka Rugby Club and was active in the athletics club; he was an instigator for getting money from the council and other organisations for the redevelopment of the domain, which is still in process.
“Pat’s a loyal Temuka man and wanted the best for the community – he was an astute councillor and community board member,” Mr O’Reilly said.
Mr Mulvey was a Temuka Community Board member from 2001-4 and, while a councillor, was chairman of the community board from 2011-16.
He was a councillor from 2004-16 and as project manager was the instigator of the building of the Alpine Energy Centre.
