Now is the time to go dog-walking at Caroline Bay – pooches will be barred from the beach from October 1.
The annual summer bylaw comes into action at the end of the month.
Dogs would be prohibited from accessing the beach until March 31, a Timaru District Council (TDC) spokesman said.
Dogs are banned from the Caroline Bay grounds year-round, but dog owners can take their pets to the beach between April 1 and September 30.
Geraldine dog owner Petra van der Sanden, who travels to Timaru once a week with her dogs in tow, enjoys their outings to the beach.
“I really like going to the bay here, so I make an effort.”
Dogs are also forbidden at all times from accessing the playing or training surface of any sports ground or sports field owned or controlled by the TDC.
They are also prohibited from being within 10m of any children’s play equipment or paddling pool in any park or reserve.
And they are restricted from accessing the portion of Temuka Domain between the western boundary of the Temuka Golf Course and the eastern boundary of Fergusson Dr, as well as the Temuka Motor Camp, the Geraldine Domain (excluding the walking track), the Geraldine Motor Camp and Raukapuka Reserve playing fields.
Dogs are also banned from Pleasant Point camping grounds from Labour Weekend until Easter.
Disability Assist dogs accomp-anying a disabled person may enter and remain in any public place.
